Most people, most or all of the time, think, feel and behaving in ways which are intended, even if not consciously (instinctual, arising from evolution), to further their position in the human social hierarchy.
This generally leads to supporting whatever they think is the group consensus. This is the most important basis for groupthink. Add ineptitude and outright corruption, and we have the corrupted groupthunk ineptitude which characterises the mainstream pandemic response, the refusal to recognise the lab origins of SARS-CoV-2 (they can't believe it, they like to think they are engaged in an heroic battle against fickle and sometimes cruel Nature, not against people like themselves), the extraordinary lack of interest in the fact that most people have only a fraction of the 25-hydroxyvitamin D their immune systems need to function properly (https://vitamindstopscovid.info/00-evi/, now with Prof. Sunil Wimalawansa's body weight based recommendations for how much vitamin D3 to supplement), wokism / identity politics / the trans activist shit-fest and so on.
Sam Harris, in this video, seems to wholly believe that at any point in time, the experts' beliefs and statements fully accord with all the arguments and evidence which were available at this time. In other words, he does not believe that their thinking lags new developments due to groupthink.
He is wrong, of course, in many instances, including especially the pandemic response and these so-called vaccines. He is subject to groupthink. He supports it while denying its influence on "experts". He assumes that Bret Weinstein and Heather Heying could not have had legitimate reasons for finding fault in the so-called vaccines, or the denial of early treatments such as vitamin D3 and ivermectin, until such time as the "experts" came to the same conclusions.
I am too exhausted to think about whatever Gavin Newsom said in this regard.
They know they were wrong. They are covering their backsides in a way they know most unthinking people might accept. Sam Harris should know that consensus is social politics not science. Science is testing assumptions to destruction. Early treatment was suppressed and they know it. People like Vladimir Zelenko were using early treatment successfully with safe repurposed drugs early 2020. As there no vaccine on offer at that point sane policy would have been to have tried it more widely until proven useless; there were several alternative treatments including fluvoxamine that had a successful RCT funded by Steve Kirsch. In early 2020 the infection on the Diamond Princess Cruise ship showed the virus spread by aerosol and the IFR was not much more than that ill-defined 'flu'. The vaccines that were promoted as stopping infection and transmission clearly did not, as was obvious from early in their use in 2021. They are despicable people happy to let others suffer instead of their egos.
In the tiny kingdom of Knowitall, the inhabitants still talk about the happening which goes back centuries and made them famous for their gullibility and brown nosing efforts to stay in the emperor’s good graces.
“Yes it’s still embarrassing to say where we live all these years later. Seeing artists’ rendition of him prancing through the streets butt naked while our ancestors marveled at his perceived ‘fine clothing’ is still a black mark especially when we meet people from other places” said Mary Misfit who tracks her family back to those days. “But as our history of Knowitall says, our actions were well intentioned and you could say justified because for the only time on record, we all agreed on something. And some still say that little boy did more harm than good by pointing out that the emperor wore no clothes”.
Do you think any of these people will ever acknowledge a truth that will jeopardize their influential status? I wonder if they realize that the ship they’re on is beginning to sink.
No, they will not. In CA Newsom is still believed and his slick con words are followed by the people. (I'm a native although I now live in NC. I'm getting ready to go there to visit family for the first time in over 4 years, reluctantly. It's been a process, a lot of it convincing them that I'm not a danger to them or myself for not having been shot. My sister finally understood after her first one and my sharing info from Bret and Heather, but my cousin has actually cried for being afraid for me.)
People there adore Newsom, they are oblivious to the truth that he and his helpers have destroyed the most beautiful place in the world. They will never see that they are at fault because they are too self-absorbed and self-righteous. I fear he will run for President and be elected and the whole country will become the hellhole that is California.
I struggle to understand his popularity. And, yes, I think many are concerned about him running. But he’s clearly trying to backtrack on some things to regain the trust of voters (ie reversing AB2098 which censored doctors).
Oh, didn't know he was doing that also. He's as sleazy as his hair. I'm always wary of men with slicked back hair and who don't wear socks with their penny loafers.
I hear you sister. I was thinking about this exact issue, unrelated to vaccines, today. It's like no matter how well informed a person is, if he or she is just an average person, s/he will be easily written off as a "conspiracy nut" for having dissenting opinions. Ditto someone on a podcast, no matter how qualified the person or intelligent the conversation, if the podcast is unrelated to a mainstream news source. A bestselling book won't count if it hasn't been blessed by the New York Times or NPR. Perhaps if a dissenting story makes it to Netflix and is given good reviews by all mainstream outlets, people will finally accept the story as fact. This of course can take years if not decades. I've just had to accept that this is how the majority of the herd operates. Perhaps this has always been the case, or maybe it's gotten worse as people have been especially primed by the MSM over the last few years to distrust "conspiracy theories."
As Fran Leibowitz said, "That's the problem with being ahead of your time. By the time everyone catches up with you, you're bored."
Groupthink Groupthink Uber Alles!
Sam Harris is FoS in this video: https://twitter.com/justin_hart/status/1705676917591159195 .

Many good points here. Thank you.

OMG Harris and Newsom are such douchebags.
